The Illinisat-2 structure comes in three different sizes: 1.5 units, 2 units, and 3 units to meet different payload needs (with one unit being a 10.00cm x 10.00cm x 11.35cm cube). The internal structure consists of four aluminum rails connected by top, middle, and bottom plates. The area between the middle and bottom plate houses the bus of the satellite, where the majority of the operational hardware resides. The payload area is between the middle and top plates, and this area varies based on the satellite size needed for the mission. The exterior of the satellite is composed of 4 carbon fiber panels, upon which the solar cells are fastened via epoxy. The Illinisat-2 structure meets cubesat specifications for fitting in the P-POD launching system.
